Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak - better known to millions worldwide as Woz - is still buzzing about an exhilarating Segway tour through the streets of Devonport.

Pauline Baker of Magic Broomstick Segway Tours in Devonport heard Woz was in Auckland to deliver a seminar on Apple's rise from a back-room start-up to billion-dollar company.

She knew Woz was a Segway fan but is still stunned he took up her offer to use one while he was in town. Ms Baker delivered a Segway to his Auckland hotel.

"The very next day I received an email from Woz: `This is a very gracious and generous act to get this Segway for my use here'. And that was Woz, a very gracious and generous man."

Ms Baker also organised a tour of Devonport and travelled with Woz by Segway from his Auckland city hotel to the ferry terminal.

Fans spotted him along the journey through the Viaduct and he happily posed for several photos.

"He was very chatty. Just the most pleasant person," Ms Baker says.

An American woman stopped Woz in Devonport and said she recognised his face but couldn't quite place who he was. Ms Baker says he promptly replied: "You have possibly seen me on Dancing with the Stars."

She discovered he did appear on ABC's 2009 show.

Woz gets about many cities in the world by Segway and thought Devonport was "the most beautiful place for a Segway tour". His tour took in North Head, Devonport village and Mt Victoria.

Ms Baker later emailed photos of his tour and got a reply from both him and his wife.

His wife commented: "Woz is always, very, very happy on a Segway."
