Internet gives cyclists a hand
Auckland's cyclists have been offered an online hand from internet giant Google.
Auckland Transport has launched a cycle route journey planner powered by Google Maps.
"The option to plan a cycle journey will sit alongside the existing walk, drive and public transport travel options on Google maps," the council-controlled organisation says.
Step-by-step directions will be available.
Google Australia's maps product manager Nabil Naghdy says the initiative aims to encourage more cycle use around Auckland.
Mayor Len Brown says: “The promotion of cycling is an important part of the push to get Auckland moving and keeping Aucklanders fit."
