The North Shore City Grand Prix cycle race hits Takapuna tomorrow, not tonight as previously reported.

From 4pm on Friday, January 30, motorists will be redirected from The Strand, Lake Rd and Hurstmere Rd with racing under way from 5:30pm.

Roads will be unaffected throughout today.

Entering its sixth year the event has become a popular and alternative form of evening entertainment as Takapuna’s roads are transformed into a high-speed cycling circuit.

Last year more than 5000 people lined the Hurstmere Rd start-finish to see Peter Latham take the men’s elite race.

There are five categories including under-17 boys and girls, open age group, and elite men and women.

For more details call Peter Ulmer on 021-754-575.

Entry forms can be found at www.smartsport.co.nz.

Road closures will be in place from 4pm to 11pm on Friday, January 30, in the following areas of Takapuna:

The Strand, including the carpark, Hurstmere Rd from corner of The Strand/Lake Rd to Killarney St, Lake Rd from Huron St to Bracken Ave, Channel View Rd.

Hurstmere Rd from Anzac St to The Promenade will be closed from 2.30pm for event set-up.
