Ironman competition closes two bridge lanes on Sunday
Motorists are urged to avoid the Auckland Harbour Bridge this Sunday because two lanes will be closed for an international Ironman competition.
The closures, including the Northern Busway, will start from 1.30am Sunday and all lanes will be re-opened by 11am, the New Zealand Transport Agency says.
The harbour bridge, motorway and busway are part of the 90km-long cycling course for Ironman 70.3 Auckland, which doubles as the Asia-Pacific Championship event.
Closures will remain in place for an hour or so longer than the marathon, NZTA says. Two lanes of the bridge's southbound clip-on lanes will be closed.
Shelly Beach Rd on-ramp and Onewa Rd's southbound on-ramp will be closed until 9.30am.
The inside lane of the northern motorway will be closed from just north of the Esmonde Rd interchange to the bridge, NZTA says.
The Esmonde Rd interchange will remain open for all southbound and northbound traffic.
Auckland Transport says a number of bus stops will be relocated. Bus route diversions will be in place in the city centre and on the Northern Busway.
A Sunday timetable will operate but longer travelling times for buses should be expected.
