LATEST: The parents of the young boy found wandering the streets of Takapuna at 4am have come forward.
The 3 to 4-year-old boy was found on Lake Rd, Takapuna, by a member of the public, wearing jeans, a blue sweatshirt, and socks but no shoes.
He spoke an unknown language, making locating his family difficult.
But the parents of boy came into the Takapuna office of Child, Youth and Family around 10am.
When first found the boy was initially taken in at the North Shore Policing Centre before he was handed over to Child Youth and Family.
"We [had] no idea where he came from or who he is," said Chief Inspector Andy Brill, earlier this morning.
Despite the ordeal the boy appeared to enjoy his adventure. He spent the morning "tearing up" the police station, and was only upset when he had to leave, a police spokesperson said.
