Man, 23, charged with attack on woman
A 23-year-old man has been charged in relation to a sexual attack on a woman walking in Takapuna earlier this year.
The Northcote man is due to reappear in the North Shore District Court on September 5.
Detectives have spent months searching for a man who attacked a 29-year-old woman as she walked alone through Killarney Park on her way from the popular Sunday markets in Takapuna.
The woman was grabbed from behind in broad daylight at 9.30am on April 21 and dragged to the ground outside the Takapuna Fire Station.
She screamed and struggled and the offender ran off.
Police say the court date on September 5 is a call-over and the accused has not been committed to trial yet.
A call-over is a meeting with the judge and lawyers of both parties to discuss pretrial issues.
In a separate attack the next night a 24-year-old woman was grabbed from behind as she was jogging along the footpath of Lake Rd near the Waitemata Golf Club.
Police said the man approached the jogger around 10pm and placed a hand over her mouth.
A struggle ensued before he ran off into the trees near Seabreeze Ave, Narrow Neck.
The offender was described as olive-skinned and with dark curly hair.
Police say inquiries are continuing into the second incident.
Detective Sergeant Scott Armstrong said at the time both attacks were of a sexual nature and while both victims were shaken and suffered minor abrasions, they did not require hospital treatment.
