Band performs for MS
Musicians from the Band of Her Majesty's Royal Marines Plymouth will step away from their regal engagements when they perform for an Auckland charity next month.
Multiple Sclerosis Auckland will benefit from an exclusive fundraising concert to kick off the band's tour of New Zealand.
The 50-person band, based at HMS Raleigh in Cornwall, will travel as far south as Blenheim during its week-long tour.
It will then jump the ditch to take part in the International Fleet Review celebrating 100 years of the Royal Australian Navy.
Each of the musicians can play at least two instruments and are trained in battlefield first-aid in case they are deployed to an area of conflict.
Typical performances for the band include entertaining crew members, ceremonial parades, cabaret displays and formal dances.
Six buglers from the band were the herald trumpeters for the royal party during the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Pageant last year.
The fundraiser will take place on September 28 at Westlake Boys High School Auditorium.
MS Auckland general manager Therese Russel says it is a rare opportunity to host a band of international reputation in New Zealand. "We are thrilled they have agreed to play in support of our charity.
"An opportunity like this is one not to be missed."
