Hillcrest home badly smoke damaged
A two-storey home on Auckland's North Shore has bad smoke damage after a fire broke out in a bedroom just before noon today.
Firefighters arrived at the property on Lynngate Place in Hillcrest to find the home filled with thick black smoke.
It is not known what caused the blaze, but Takapuna senior station officer Steve Callagher said it appeared to have begun in a bedroom.
"We are just working to clear the smoke ... Once that's done we will have a good look around and if it's not obvious we will get the fire investigators in."
Firefighters would attempt to contact the residents, Callagher said.
"We have carried out a pretty thorough search and there doesn't appear to be anyone inside."
A high-pressure hose was used to douse the flames.
