Unusual weather is due at Browns Bay later this month.
About 13 tonnes of snow will be dumped on the village green for a free Ice Age event.
Organiser Kevin Smit says there is huge benefit in getting people together.
"It's really nice to just do something for the community with no strings attached. There's not much of that about anymore."
Mr Smit hopes for about 800 people will attend and says they come from "all over the show".
Last year he spoke to a family from Manukau that brought its children to see snow for the first time.
"That's exactly what it's about," Mr Smit says.
Activities including a performance from the Funky Monkeys, bouncy castles, face painting, a photo booth and a demonstration by ice sculptor Victor Cagayat are all free.
Bring your own accessories for the snowman competition.
Ice Age is from 9.30am till 12.30pm on September 28 on the Browns Bay Village Green, Glen Rd, Browns Bay.
