More car parking for area
Businesses desperate for more parking around the busy Glenfield town centre have been given a temporary reprieve.
Kaipatiki Local Board has put forward $84,880 towards providing a hard surface across the land at 450 Glenfield Rd.
The section has long been in limbo. North Shore City Council bought 450 Glenfield Rd before the super-city amalgamation as the need for more parking grew, member Vivienne Keohane says.
It was to become a permanent parking space sooner but Auckland Transport removed it from its regional long-term plan, along with the Glenfield town centre road upgrade.
Kaipatiki chairwoman Lindsay Waugh says the board has asked for the town centre project to be picked up by Auckland Transport sooner than the five to 10 year timeframe given.
The car park is opposite the Westfield Glenfield shopping centre and Glenfield Community Centre, next to a block of shops.
Business owners have told the board there is increasing pressure on available car parking.
Auckland Transport is looking into a temporary fix.
