BRIGHT SPARK: Lauren Towns, 10, with her NZ Aria under 13 winners trophy and chicken All Black.

A 10-year-old with a love for Taylor Swift and chickens has been invited to share the stage with two of New Zealand's renowned classical singers.

Lauren Towns of Bayswater has been practising three songs for the Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas concert where she will perform alongside her tutor and noted performer Tim Beveridge.

She says she began singing lessons with Mr Beveridge last year but has always loved music.

Mum Catherine says Lauren used to sing the tune to Twinkle Twinkle as a baby in her cot.

Taylor Swift and Hayley Westenra inspire her, Lauren says, because folk-pop is a genre she's keen to explore.

Singing "transforms you into a different world", she says.

Lauren won this year's NZ Aria award for the under-13 category and is very proud of herself.

When she's not singing, she spends time with her family's chickens which roam free around their property.

She raised the chicks since 2012 and collects the eggs they lay.

But Lauren is allergic to yolks and whites. Despite that, she named a shy favourite Yolk, but she's "come out of her shell" and loves dust baths.

Soprano singer Julia Booth joins Lauren and Mr Beveridge at the Christmas charity fundraiser on December 16 at Holy Trinity Cathedral, Parnell.

Proceeds go to Mercy Hospice Auckland and Dove House.
