SECOND SWADDLE: Passersby on Greenhithe Rd can still enjoy St Michael’s nativity scene with its stand-in Jesus.

Greenhithe churchgoers hope baby Jesus and his manger will make a swift second-coming to the church he was stolen from.

Jesus was taken from the nativity scene outside St Michael's Church on Greenhithe Rd last Monday. Local community organiser Sarah Wuthrich, says some of the congregation are "quite upset" about the disappearance.

But Ms Wuthrich is hoping it was just "kids having a laugh" who took the manger and doll.

The entire nativity scene, which has sat outside the church every Christmas "for years" was created by a now deceased member of St Michael's congregation.

The theft comes just as the nativity scene is about to be transferred to the nearby community hall for carols this Sunday. A stand-in Jesus and crib have been provided.

Ms Wuthrich says anyone who knows the whereabouts of Jesus and his manger should "quietly return" him.
