More than $25,000 worth of jewellery was snatched when two Michael Hill Jeweller stores were hit by shoplifters within 30 minutes of each other.
A man entered the Takapuna store on Hurstmere Rd at 1.30pm on January 11 and asked to look at two $5000 gold chains, says North Shore area commander Inspector Shanan Gray.
The man then ran outside with the jewellery to a waiting car.
On the same day the Albany store inside the Westfield mall was hit at 2pm when a man asked to view a $15,999 gold necklace before running off with it.
He was caught by mall security staff and will appear in the North Shore District Court on a shoplifting charge.
Mr Gray says it is too early to speculate if it was the same person who stole from both stores.
