Fire forces passengers from bus
Passengers have been evacuated from a bus after fire broke out in the air conditioning unit as it was travelling through Takapuna.
Fire fighters arrived to find flames coming from the rear of the North Star bus parked at a bus station on Lake Rd at around 11am.
Takapuna Fire station officer Bob Morrison says a high pressure hose was used to extinguish the flames and the bus will now be towed away for repairs.
He says the driver "did a good job" and pulled over immediately when he noticed the fire.
Mr Morrison says the driver tried to put out the blaze himself using a bucket of water while he waited for help to arrive.
It appears as though the air conditioning unit has overheated, Mr Morrison says.
No one was injured and there is little damage to the interior of the bus, he says.
A replacement has been ordered to transport waiting passengers.
