NorthTec’s design students have earned praise from fashion industry stalwarts who attended the students’ end-of-year fashion show.

The Diploma in Textile and Fashion students held the show, Juxtapose, in Forum North recently to showcase their year’s work.

Glennis Burton, student liaison officer and Karen Walker assistant production manager, was so impressed with the show she went backstage afterward to pass on her accolades.

Bruce Tollamache from the Fashion and Textile Industry Training Organisation was also impressed with the students’ creations.

Juxtapose was the brainchild of last year’s first-year students who wanted to turn their small end-of-year showcase into a larger event and charity fundraiser.

This year’s cabaret theme was ideal to accompany the students’ work, which included production planning and a multiple-sample run of a tailored jacket. Tutor Merle Owens says the theme was nicely capped off with the wearing of black shorts, black tights, top hats and canes.

The event is well supported by staff and management of NorthTec, with NorthTec chief executive Terry Barnett handing out awards on the night. The event showcased work from students in both years of the diploma, with the models’ hair and makeup being done by students from NorthTec’s hair and beauty schools.
