Rescue team saves three people stuck on broken down boat in Northland

Three people on board a broken down boat have been saved off the coast of Dargaville in Northland.

A Fire Service spokesman said the boat, a 16ft "runabout", struck troubles on Wednesday about 6pm.

Rescue crews and the Coastguard were responding.

The boat was about 1km north of Baylys Beach and about 500m from shore. It is understood all on board were wearing life jackets.

There was some concern about worsening conditions, the spokesman said.
