It was the hottest show in town. The Empress Stiltdance group put on a great show over the weekend although the heat, rising to a stifling 35 degrees on Sunday, caused them to cut one session from their Valentine’s Day appearance at the Domain during the Bay of Islands Arts Festival.

The stilts were created by Emily Buttle of Wellington, who has branches in Amsterdam and Australia.

Festival director Sue James says she is excited about the upcoming Great Kiwi Weekend featuring comedian Te Radar and the Wellington International Ukulele Orchestra at The Centre and The Woolshed Sessions at the Pioneer in Waipapa.

The Woolshed Sessions band was nominated for best Aotearoa Roots release at the 2009 New Zealand music awards.
