People planning to stand for office at local elections on October 9 have until noon on Friday to lodge candidate nominations.

Thirty-two people had lodged nominations for the Far North mayoralty and seats on the Far North District Council and community boards, Northland Regional Council and Northland District Health Board on Monday. District council staff advise aspiring politicians not to leave it to the last minute to lodge nominations.

"We're urging candidates to review the requirements and make sure their nomination arrangements are in order well before the deadline," says governance manager Vibeke Wright.

"One minute after noon on the last day for nominations is too late."

Anyone who is 18 or older can stand for election as long as they are a citizen and enrolled on the parliamentary electoral roll.

Nomination forms and candidate information booklets are available from the council's centres in Kaikohe, Kaitaia and Kerikeri, by calling 0800-922-822, or from www.fndc.govt.nz/elections.
