Anti-abuse group Kaipara Abuse Prevention is urging people to show their support for White Ribbon Day at RD 1 Park in Dargaville.

White Ribbon Day, November 25, is the international day when people wear a white ribbon to show that they do not condone violence towards women.

Kaipara Abuse Prevention – KAP – is co-ordinating this year’s activities, the second event of its kind to be held in Dargaville.

KAP administrator Trish Harding says "we invite everyone to come along and show their support for the awesome message of the White Ribbon".

From 2pm onwards there will be a volleyball fun competition, mixed teams of six – for a trophy, teams must have two females playing all the time, rotating subs are fine. This will continue until the bikes and classic cars arrive at 4pm.

There is expected to be up to 1000 motor bikes and classic cars, and rugby league star Ruben Wiki will be on the car run.

Ms Harding says KAP has planned for a fairground-style afternoon and it invites other groups to have stalls for fundraising.

Games include coconut shy, throw the balls at a target for a prize, hoop throwing and goal-kicking competitions.

The Old Boys Rugby Club will put on a hangi at 5pm and the Skate Park Group will be fundraising for the new skate park with a sausage sizzle.

Entertainment will also include kapa haka performances, speakers and music.

Ms Harding says they will be collecting donations of tinned food for the Kaipara Safe House.
