New manager on pool patrol

The Kauri Coast community pool has a new asset pool manager - Trevor Bruce.
Mr Bruce says the pool is a regional success with a quarter of members coming from out of town.
"It has brought economic opportunities to the community with people coming into town and then doing their shopping locally.
"I also hope that school holiday programmes will be run from the pools in the future. It gives something for the kids to do, gets them up off the couch away from the PlayStation and out swimming."
There have been a few changes at the pool since its opening.
Mr Bruce says spectator fees have dropped from $5 to $3, and the pool is now open from 9.30am on weekends.
There are 12 staff, one receptionist and 11 lifeguards.
Mr Bruce has extensive involvement in the sport and recreation sector.
At the age of 14 he joined the navy and was a diver for 12 years. When he left he worked as a rubbish contractor.
In the early 1990s he became recreation assistant at North Shore City Council and completed a bachelor of business degree in sport and recreation.
Soon after took on management roles at the North Shore Sport and Leisure centre and Glenfield Leisure Centre. During his time as manager of the Glenfield Leisure Centre he looked after the community pool.
Mr Bruce also worked as a trainer for various Auckland based rugby teams including North Harbour under 21s and assisted the Blues.
In his spare time Mr Bruce operates a business called Spates Lifestyle, doing contract work such as mulching, spraying and mowing.
As a resident of Mangawhai he is looking to relocate to Dargaville.
"I am looking for a lease block of land with accommodation for my hereford herd, 50 heifers in calf."
