Families are encouraged to celebrate annual Children's Day with a teddy bears' picnic at Selwyn Park and a free swim in the pool.

This year's Children's Day is Sunday, March 7, and the theme is Praise and Encouragement.

Event co-ordinator Yvette Gilchrist says this year they have decided celebrate at the park because of the "beautiful new swimming pool".

Ms Gilchrist says there will be lots of entertainment, a teddy bears’ picnic and families are encouraged to bring along a picnic.

There will be a best-dressed teddy bear competition, fancy dress competition, entertainment, music, bouncy castle, giveaways and Circus Kumarani performances.

"It’s about coming along and getting involved and parents praising their children through swimming."

A free swim will be held at the pool from 10.30am to 11.30am.
