A man is in critical condition after being pinned under the tyre of a 15-tonne truck after it rolled in Northland on Wednesday evening.

The Fire Service said they were called to the incident in Te Kopuru, south of Dargaville, at 4.26pm on Wednesday.

A Fire Service spokeswoman said they were working with paramedics to stabilise the patient before preparing to airlift him to hospital.

"He is currently pinned underneath the back wheel of the truck, and it looks like we'll be there for some time," she said.

She couldn't provide information on how the accident happened.

The man was reported free shortly after 6pm.
