Children will get a colourful surprise next time they visit Kai Iwi Lakes.

A visitor who wanted to "give something back to an area that has given so much" has helped provide a new children's playground at Pine Beach.

Ross Archer of Playco teamed up with Joe Moores from Commercial Play Systems to present the Kaipara District Council with an opportunity to provide a discounted new playground at the Domain's Pine Beach location.

A keen waterskier, Mr Archer's memories include "barefooting around the lake at dusk" searching for koura at night.

Based on his travel experience he rates the lakes as a "best in the world location".

All the playground needs is children.

"This will give children something to do away from the water or when conditions don't suit swimming," camp manager Andre Howells says.
