An early Christmas present is heading the way of electricity consumers in Kaipara and Whangarei thanks to an $80 tax free credit on December power accounts.
The distribution is courtesy of the Northpower Electric Power Trust (NEPT).
It is allocated to the 54,900 power installation control points (ICPs) connected to the Northpower network as at midnight on December 18.
NEPT Chairman Erc Angelo says customers who do not receive the $80 credit on their next power account should contact the NEPT information line on 0800 434 100.
‘‘Just so people understand, the NEPT owns Northpower on behalf of the electricity consumers of the Kaipara and Whangarei Districts and the distribution is the customer’s share of Northpower’s profits paid to the Trust by Northpower,’’ Mr Angelo says.
‘‘2012 has been a pleasing year with the progress Northpower has made. Revenue lifted from $217.5m in 2011 to $242m this year and profit lifted 11% to $9.6m in the same period.
‘‘That’s why we are able to pass on this distribution to consumers as it reflects the continuing success of Northpower, although it is still a tough market out there,’’ Mr Angelo says.
Consumers also benefit annually from a line holiday paid directly by Northpower to consumers. Earlier this year that credit totalled $5.3m.
Since 1993 almost $170m has been given back to Northpower’s consumers in Kaipara and Whangarei through the NEPT Distribution and the Northpower line holiday.
The $80 credit will appear on December power accounts regardless of which electricity retailer consumers are with. Northpower supplies electricity to the Kaipara and Whangarei Districts through a number of retailers, including Pulse, Mercury, Meridian, Contact and Genesis.
