Police are investigating an assault that occurred in Kaikohe Tuesday night .

A young woman was walking across Lindvart Park at about 6:30pm when she was allegedly assaulted by a group of young men. The victim managed to escape from this group by running across the field and along Raihara Street.

Before the incident the men were seen hanging around the hockey field's grandstand building and one of them was riding a BMX pushbike.

The victim could only give a brief description of the offenders.  She thought they were aged between 14 and 17 years old.  One was wearing a light coloured long sleeve top and a beanie.  The other two were wearing caps.

It is thought that two other men from this group walked away along Penny Crescent shortly before the assault.

Police are seeking the public's help in identifying these men. Anyone with information can contact Sergeant Kevin Milne at the Kaikohe Police station on 09 405 2960 or call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
