A high level of building activity is about to hit Whangarei with near record-high building consents being processed by the Whangarei District Council in October.

The council processed over $26.3 million worth of building consents, which environment manager Paul Dell says is one of the largest values recorded in council history. He says there is an even split between commercial and residential building consents.

The council received 124 building consents in October, down slightly on the month before.
