Giving the Salvation Army a helping hand is the good cause behind a bike and hot rod show in Whangarei this weekend.

Northland Triumph Owners Club area co-ordinator John Eymon is organising the event to raise funds for the Whangarei Salvation Food Bank.

John says he expects more than 50 bikes and 30 to 40 hot rods will be at the event on Saturday.

He says the idea to hold the event arose about a year ago over a few drinks with friends.

The event will include a people's choice competition for both rods and bikes, best custom paint job and best British bike. Supporting organisations include the Northland Riders from Kaitaia, Hikurangi Riders, Ruawai Motorcyle Club, Northland Triumph Owners Club and the Ulysses Motorcycle Club, Northern Street Rods, Whangarei Rod and Custom Club and Kaipara Harbour Hot Rod Club.

John is still looking for a sponsor to help cover the venue cost for the show - the Badminton Hall in Porowini Ave.

The day's activities start at 11am. Entry is by donation. Refreshments will be available.

For more information phone John on 027-414-1813.
