The winter sports season is not far away and one of the most popular sports in the country is on the lookout for young talent.
The official name in New Zealand is football with organisations still using the name soccer going through a rebranding to reflect this.
In preparation for the season, North Force and United Soccer 1 have organised events at Tikipunga Sports Park to encourage people to get involved in football.
On February 14 the North Force women’s team is hosting an open day to trial for either the first 11 or development team and play for Northland in the Northern Premier League and Federation First Division.
The day will start at 4pm. Phone 027-675-4213 for more information.
The following Saturday, February 20, New Zealand Football Girls and Women’s Week will be celebrated with members of the New Zealand Football Ferns senior women’s team in attendance starting from 9.30am with an education course from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.
To register for the free events phone 437-7294 or email cbaker@unitedsoccer1.org.nz.
On Sunday, February 21 the Northland Football Rally Day is on for players to sign up for the 2010 season.
If you are unsure of your local club then call 437-7294 or email cbaker@united
soccer1.org.nz for details.
On the same Sunday there will also be a United Soccer 1 Northland high-performance open day for boys turning 12 to 17 years in 2010 who want to trial for the North Force under-13, under-15 and under-17 squads.
There will be a players and parents meeting at 10.30am at Tikipunga with coaching staff to discuss the requirements, followed by games from 11am to 1pm.
