Whangarei is the worst performing provincial centre in the country when it comes to the property market.

According to the QV residential property report for January, house prices in Whangarei are down 3.9 percent on
the same time last
year.

Nationally, values are up 4.4 percent.

The average sale price for Whangarei in January was $330,000, well below the national average of $410,000.

But the fall in house prices in Whangarei in January was less than the drop of 5.2 percent in December 2009.
