About the Whangarei Leader

The Leader is a free community newspaper delivered every Tuesday to 30,929 addresses in the urban and rural areas of Whangarei - from Waipu in the south to Bland Bay in the north and west toward Dargaville and the Waipoua Forest. Its eastern boundaries include the seaside communities of Ngunguru, Tutukaka and the growing Whangarei Heads area.

Key staff

Editor Nick Unkovich and reporter Alexandra Newlove strive to bring a mix of stories to readers each week with particular emphasis on the positive things happening in the community.

We want your news!

The Whangarei Leader welcomes news from clubs and community groups. Don't worry about writing a story. Just tell us who, where, when, what and why.

Letters to the editor

The Whangarei Leader welcomes letters to the editor. Just bear in mind these rules. Letters should not exceed 250 words.  All letters must have full name, residential address and phone number. Hard copy letters must have a legible signature. Only your name and suburb are published. We prefer letters about local issues. Open letters and poetry are seldom used. We discourage personal attacks - try to advance the debate.

Digital edition instructions

We now have digital editions of all our suburban newspapers which are available on the day of publication.
