Papakura isn’t normally thought of as a hotbed of theatrical talent but perhaps it’s time it was.
Rosehill College’s head of drama and dance Stacey Bolt has won best director and outstanding play at the Auckland secondary schools’ Showdown Awards.
She won the awards for the year 13 production of The Diary of Anne Frank.
Held at the SkyCity theatre the annual awards drew submissions from 22 schools from Whangaparaoa to Papakura.
Ms Bolt says her win was "definitely unexpected".
"We were up against private schools like St Kentigern College and Kristin School."
It’s the first time Rosehill College has won a Showdown award and "it’s really nice to have the recognition," Ms Bolt says.
