Most people wouldn’t exercise for eight to 10 hours even if you paid them.

But a group of dancers will spend a year raising more than $10,000 simply to take part in a gruelling contest involving orienteering, mountain biking and running through the Hunua Ranges.

So far the South City Dancers have managed to raise $4600 but they need another $6000 to enter the Cure Kids Great Adventure Race.

To help them hit the target seven Karaka and Waiuku residents have agreed to open their private gardens to the public on November 28.

The garden ramble will run from 9.30am to 4.30pm and while gardens are the main feature there will also be vintage cars, including a 1948 Rolls Royce, on display.

There will also be a devonshire tea stop accompanied by a display of Mercedes cars courtesy of the Mercedes Car Club.

For two years group member Leo Wolters has supported his wife’s Cure Kids race team but this year he decided to give it a go himself.

He says the South City Dancers are a small group without corporate support so raising money is a lot more difficult. But he’s confident the garden ramble will take them close to their target.

"We are extremely thankful to all those who have helped or donated so far," he says.

Mr Wolters says 100 percent of the money raised by the adventure race goes directly to Cure Kids, including the entry fee.

Tickets to the garden ramble are $25 and are available online at www.fundraiseonline.co.nz/gardenramble. They can also be purchased from Stihl shops in Drury and Harcourts and Urban Pharmacy in Papakura.
