About $180,000 is to be spent on fittings, furniture and art for the new library, museum and Papakura District Council offices as part of its Accent Pt redevelopment.

Councillors voted last month to allocate extra money for a security screen and grill, artwork, directional signs, two moveable walls and additional furniture for the level three redevelopment.

These items will be funded from the 2010-11 Long Term Council Community Plan budget.

The council announced late last year it is selling its part share in the complex to co-owners Verus Holdings for $3.5 million and will lease back level three which has street-level access.

The library, museum and council offices will move down to level three. Work started last week on the upgrade. So far $844,000 of the just over $1.5m set aside for the redevelopment remains unspent.

Strategic projects manager Nicola Mochrie told last month’s council meeting that part of the $80,000 tagged for fittings and fixtures will go towards new shelving for the library.

For the cost of moving shelving from the old library, Ms Mochrie says it’s better to buy new shelves that will make it easier to display books for the elderly and children.

The public toilets on level three will also be upgraded. Public parking on the lower levels will stay.

When it’s empty, level four will be leased out by Verus.

The project has been signed off by the Auckland Transition Agency.
