Stingrays charge to finals
The Counties Manukau Stingrays are in reach of an historic national rugby league championship treble.
All three teams have confirmed their place in the grand finals after a clean sweep of victories against the South Island Scorpions in the penultimate round of matches.
The premiers won a dogged affair 28-22 at Mt Smart Stadium on Monday night after the under-17s and under-15s romped to respective 74-4 and 52-6 wins at Massey Park on Sunday.
The victories cemented a finals berth for all three teams where they'll meet defending champions the Akarana Falcons in the premiers and under-15s, and either the Wellington Orcas or the Falcons in the under-17s.
The second-placed Orcas meet the Falcons in Porirua on October 21 with the winner going through to the grand final.
The Counties Manukau under-17s and under-15s play their final round match against the Waicoa Bay Colts in Mt Maunganui on the same day.
That will enable players in the New Zealand Residents under-16s and under-18 teams to play a series of matches in Australia.
The under-16s will meet a Queensland Academy team on October 7.
The under-18s play the Gold Coast Titans on Sunday and a Queensland Maori XIII on October 12.
