Carols in the Park ready for action
More than 100 youngsters are ready to hit the high notes this Friday as they prepare for Papakura's 14th annual Carols in the Park.
The event is a highlight of the Christmas calendar, with locals waving their glowsticks and singing along to timeless classics like Joy to the World and modern tunes like Jingle Bell Rock.
The 140-strong children's choir gathers kids from Red Hill Primary, Takanini School, Mansell Senior School, Cosgrove Primary, Papakura High and Alfriston College. It is directed by Felicity Auva'a.
Popular South Auckland band Ardijah will also perform along with Alfriston College's Refusion Band, cheerleading group the Rosehill Rockets and singers from Papakura High.
Families can bring a picnic dinner or partake of stall fare including sausage sizzles, steak sandwiches, chocolates and icecream. There will also be a bouncy castle to entertain the under-6s.
The event is being run by The Gate as a joint project with the Papakura Local Board and Auckland Council.
Carols in the Park runs from 5.30pm to 9pm on December 7 at Central Park, Wood St, Papakura. Entry is free. Phone the Gate on 298 1807.
