The Kumeu sale yards have closed, mainly due to changing land use around the Kumeu district.
Livestock Mart Auctions had its final Kumeu sale on Monday.
The sale started 14 years ago near Westgate after the Kumeu main road sale yards closed.
Unlike its opening day, the closing sale was a beautiful, warm early winter's day, a fitting tribute to a saleyard which has filled a gap locally, Chris Humphrey of Livestock Mart Auctions says.
The company has a successful saleyard at Pukekohe on Saturdays, and the Kumeu sale supporters will be sending cattle and sheep there, he says.
A large crowd of buyers and well-wishers ensured the market was very firm.
Good 2-year steers fetched up to $1285 and young heifers $532.
Cattle. Best 2-year steers $1015-$1285, medium store 2-year steers $755-$955, very light 18-month steers $640, medium rising 1-year heifers $433-$532.
Sheep. Fat lambs $95-$104, store lambs $56-$81, ewes $73-$84.
