Police have released the names of two Rodney drivers who died after a two car crash on Bawden Rd, Redvale, just before noon on Sunday.
They are Kyle Jack Sellers, 19, of Manly and Lois Marjorie Booth, 70, of Dairy Flat.
Police say the crash happened at 11.51 am after a black Holden Commodore driven by Mr Sellers travelling west started overtaking another vehicle on a downhill stretch of Bawden Rd.
The Holden crossed yellow no-passing lines, police say.
A purple Honda Civic driven by Mrs Booth was involved in a head-on collision with the Holden.
Both drivers died at the scene, police say.
A 48-year-old female passenger in the Honda was taken to Auckland Hospital by Westpac Rescue helicopter with serious injuries. Her condition Monday morning was stable.
Firefighter Greig Mooney of the Silverdale Fire Brigade says trucks from Silverdale and East Coast Bays responded to the 12.05 call and were on the scene around 12.20pm.
Another rescue tender was called from Takapuna.
Mr Mooney was relieving at Takapuna and says that they helped get the Honda passenger out.
Constable Karl Bevin of the Serious Crash Unit says police are investigating and the woman driver of the vehicle being overtaken at the time of the incident is assisting police.
He says the woman suffered severe shock.
