Thousands enjoy weekend events

Thousands of Rodney residents made the most of good weekend weather for Halloween and fireworks displays.
Riverhead Fright Night welcomed hundreds of costumed children for group tours to designated "Scare" Houses.
"The best Scare House went to Megan Martin who had her children dressed as zombies walking around the deck grabbing people," says organiser Rachael Parkinson.
"Best Safe House goes to Kim James who did her whole front deck and door into a bat cave.
"Very well done and once again for the second year running we had to give an award of Best Community Spirit to Patti Wilson for putting on a barbecue for everyone."
Silverdale firefighters’ open day at Orewa Beach Reserve welcomed thousands of families and friends for the displays, fair rides, music and a fireworks display. The volunteer fire service was pleased with the turnout.
Trunk or Treat hosted around 2500 children and families at The Plaza on Saturday evening for the alternative Halloween event.
"It was excellent. We had a bit of competition with other things on as well, but it proved to be a really good night," says organiser Kirsten Smith.
"We were really happy to see everyone having a good time."
Taupaki School’s fireworks display was postponed until Friday, November 6, due to wet conditions at the Kumeu Showgrounds.
The event will start at 5pm, with fireworks from around 8.30pm.
Adults are $10, children or seniors $5, or family pass for $30.
If you have bought tickets and can’t make the new date, contact the school office for a refund on 810-9855.
The Waitakere Fireworks display is on Saturday, November 7, from 4.30pm at the Trusts Stadium in Henderson.
The Waitakere City Lions Club is organising the event, which is free for children under 13, $17 for adults and $12 for students and seniors.
