Drug raids by police in Rodney this morning uncovered a sophisticated hydroponics cannabis growing operation, dried cannabis and a gun with ammunition.
Properties in Waiwera, Waitoki and Whangaparaoa were searched, resulting in a 39-year-old Whangaparaoa man being charged with the cultivation of cannabis for supply and possession of cannabis for supply, police say.
A 35-year-old Waiwera woman has been charged with possession of cannabis for supply and a 45-year-old Waitoki man charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.
The raids follow the discovery of another hydroponics cannabis growing operation in the Wellsford area, police say.
Police will act upon all credible information concerning illegal drug activity, Rodney relieving area commander inspector Keith Brady says. "We are looking at the cultivation and production of illegal drugs Rodney wide," he says. "If you are in the business of cultivating cannabis for supply or the production of other illegal drugs within Rodney then expect police to be through your door soon."
The police bust was dubbed Operation Ayrshire.
Mr Brady urges any member of the public wanting to pass on information to police to use the new Crimestoppers hotline 0800-555-111.
