- Until November 23: Celebration Art Exhibition at the Helensville Art Centre, Karaka St. Highlights the artistic gifts of those who live and work within the Mt Tabor community and those at Peacemakers in Parakai three days a week. Seeing the need for such a programme, though receiving no funding as yet for it, Mt Tabor offers music and games, art and craft and hosts its deaf community as well as those it is aware of who have fallen through the net of services.
- Until November 29: Otamatea Quilters 25th Annual Quilt Show at The Kauri Museum, Matakohe. An exhibition showcasing the craft of patchwork and quilting. - November 11: Christmas market shopping night at Dairy Flat School hall, 6.30pm-9.30pm, $5 entry includes a glass of bubbles. Painters, sculptor, children’s toys, books, chocolate, clothes, make-up. Lots of stalls and loads of goodies. Cash only.

- November 14 and 15: Gulf Harbour Fishing competition. Fishing starts 1am and continues until final weigh-in on Sunday at 3pm. Saturday’s weigh-in at the tournament base, 4pm-6pm. Sunday’s weigh-in 3pm-5pm. Prizegiving both fishing days as soon as results have been processed around 6.30pm. Any fish presented after close of weigh-in times not accepted. - November 20-22: Floral Art Auckland show at the Helensville War Memorial Hall, Commercial Rd, 10am-4pm. Theme Global Kaleidoscope. Floral art by the Auckland area for the Floral Art Society of New Zealand, featuring the Auckland Area Designer of the Year Awards. Exhibits by novice, intermediate and advanced floral designers. - November 20 and 22: Art Kaipara supports the Auckland Floral Art Convention with a flower and plant exhibition. The Genesis Information Centre at 58 Commercial Rd has loaned the building to support a local event and the artists will be on hand to talk.

- November 22: White Ribbon Day – ending family violence awareness campaign supported by Rodney District Council and Hestia Women’s Refuge. A fun run at Orewa Beach starts 3pm, open to the public. The fun run will feature music, a sausage sizzle, information about family violence, and Rodney deputy mayor John Kirikiri as MC. Competitors encouraged to wear fancy dress. Spot prizes, including a three-month membership at The Leisure Centre, Whangaparaoa.
- November 22: The Dacre Cottage and Yakity Yak Kayak Club annual Christmas Brunch. A Christmas feast in the beautiful grounds of Dacre Cottage. 11am to mid-afternoon. Walk the Okura bush track from Haig’s Access Rd or from Stillwater, or kayak/boat to Karepiro Beach between the Okura and Weiti rivers. High tide at noon, three metres. Cost: Kids $5 and adults $10. - December 5: Garage sale for the Citizens Advice Bureau at the Orewa Community Hall, 9am. Goods can be delivered to the hall on December 4, or anyone with anything to sell can phone the CAB office on 426-533. Tickets for Christmas hampers also on sale.
- December 5-6: The Hibiscus Coast Singers Christmas Concert at the Red Beach Methodist Church, Red Beach Rd, at 7.30pm, and Sunday, December 6 at 2.30 pm. Celebrates anniversaries of composers Handel, Mendelssohn and Haydn. Dr John Wells will accompany on the organ and the guest artist will be his daughter, a young emerging cellist. Messiah choruses, audience sing-alongs with favourite carols, and Vaughan Williams Fantasia on Christmas Carols complete the programme. Tickets available at the door.
- December 6: Ellie and Friends Car Show at the Salty Dog Inn in Snells Beach are running a children’s colouring competition and providing the venue. Registration from noon, show starts 1pm. Events include The Cleanest Car Award, The People’s Choice and children’s colouring-in competition. Judging at 3pm, and prizegiving at 3.30pm.
- December 7-24: Hospice West Auckland is looking for volunteers to help with its annual Christmas Remembrance Trees (STARS) event at Westgate for three hour shifts. Volunteers are also needed for the Kumeu Christmas parade on December 11 from 6pm-9pm, the Coatesville market on December 6 from 9am-2pm and December 13 from 3pm-8pm. - December 29 to January 3: The Great Summer Art Exhibition organised by the Mahurangi East Tennis Club at the Snells Beach Community Centre in Hamatama Rd, Snells Beach, with the preview night on Monday December 28, 7pm, with wine and nibbles. Entry $10. Prizes for all categories (Professional, Intermediate and Novice) and the Judge’s Encouragement Award will be presented after the opening ceremony. Exhibition opening by Bryn Gradwell on behalf of the professional category sponsor, The Salty Dog Inn. Exhibited paintings are then available for sale up to noon on Sunday January 3. About 2500 and 3500 visitors expected. The Great Summer Art Exhibition Cafe will be open with home baked items. Exhibition profits go towards the completion of three new tennis courts.
