A 79-year-old man was found dead by a family member at a Hatfields Beach lifestyle block on Tuesday at about 5.10pm.
Police say the man was attending to a small controlled fire he had lit and had fallen into it. The fire was apparently lit to clear scrub.
He has been named as Trevor George Turner, a Hatfields Beach identity.
Police says the incident is not being treated as suspicious and the matter has been referred to the coroner.
Fire safety officers are investigating.
