Rodney police have tested thousands of drivers in the past three months as part of their Operation Persist Three project.
Between October and December, 16,736 vehicles were stopped at compulsory breath-testing checkpoints and 2817 vehicle stops were made by mobile patrols.
High on the agenda were drink-drivers, speedsters, illegal street racers, and enforcement of basic road rules and regulations.
Sixty-five drivers returned results for excess alcohol levels, 15 of them electing a blood test.
About 2400 infringement notices were issued with 28 vehicles impounded for a variety of offences.
Police say 46 drivers had their licences suspended because of associated offences.
There were a number of arrests throughout the course of the operation for burglary, drugs, offensive weapons, stolen vehicles and an assortment of minor criminal and vehicle offences.
The road policing operation involved strategic traffic units from Rodney, North Shore and Waitakere, the Waitemata Highway Patrol Group, the Auckland Metropolitan Traffic Alcohol Group, speed camera vehicles and partner agencies.
