Cannabis raid uncovers major haul

More than 1000 cannabis plants have been destroyed by Helensville police.
The mainly mature plants were found in plots spread throughout a maize crop.
Police inquiries and public tipoffs through the anonymous Crimestoppers service led to the bust, one of the largest in the district for some time.
"We believe it will seriously impact the supply of drugs locally," says sergeant Dave Wright, acting officer in charge of Helensville police.
Mr Wright says it appears to be a professional and well-organised operation.
"It was a significant find. It’s the biggest amount I’ve been involved with."
Up to eight police from Kumeu, Whangaparaoa and Orewa and a helicopter helped.
Officers worked all day clearing the area, taking plants out in two vans and a ute.
Police investigations continue.
Mr Wright says information given to police will be followed up.
