An Orewa resident who died recently bequeathed more than half a million dollars to Starship Children's Hospital.
The $528,977.72 bequest came from Richard Leslie Jeffers, who died of cancer, aged 65. Mr Jeffers moved to Orewa from Kumeu when aged 7.
He owned and operated a barber's shop in Whangaparaoa from the mid-1960s.
Cousin Murray Ness says Mr Jeffers was a kind man, who loved fishing, and was well-liked by the many people who had known him.
