Orewa roundabouts aim to cut speeding

HIBISCUS Coast Highway in Orewa will soon have a roundabout at each end of Orewa Boulevard.
The Rodney District Council is installing them as gateway treatments to assist with reducing traffic speed through the boulevard.
Construction started this week.
The roundabouts will be placed at the Riverside Rd intersection with Hibiscus Coast Highway and the Florence Ave intersection.
Riverside Rd intersection will be completed first, with features of both intersections including pedestrian crossings, a raised roundabout, shared zone signage and planted median islands.
The Florence Rd treatment construction starts in late September.
Completion date is late November, weather permitting. Work will include pavement construction, kerbing, storm water drainage, central roundabouts, footpaths and road surfacing.
The council says traffic interruption will be inevitable.
