An elderly woman died after being hit by a car on State Highway 16 in Waimauku on Tuesday morning.
The woman, in her late 70s, was crossing the road by a bus stop near Waimauku School around 9.15am when she was struck.
The vehicle involved was travelling towards Helensville.
Neighbours of the woman were with her before she was taken by ambulance to Auckland City Hospital where she later died. Next-of-kin have been informed.
SH16 was reduced to one lane as Police Serious Crash Unit investigators examined the scene and spoke to witnesses, including the driver of the vehicle.
"In the weeks leading up to Christmas, police are imploring people to take extra care on and around the roads," Orewa traffic unit's Sergeant John Roberts says.
"Police have seen a number of serious crashes in the Rodney area of late resulting in serious injuries for those involved.
"A serious injury or death is always tragic but in the days before Christmas they are especially traumatic for the families involved."
An elderly woman suffered serious injuries when she was hit by a car while crossing the Hibiscus Coast Highway near Hatfields Beach on November 20.
