Orewa is better prepared for any major emergency following the signing of the Orewa Emergency Response Plan last week.
Civil Defence, along with local emergency services and key community groups, have revised and updated plans for how best to respond to threats such as a tsunami, tropical storm, flooding, infrastructure failure and tidal surges in Orewa.
The document includes alert and warning types, location of evacuation centres, radio stations to tune to, key contacts, and evacuation plans.
A summary pamphlet will be delivered to all Orewa households and businesses. A similar plan for Whangaparaoa was completed in July.
"This plan better links any emergency alert given to the community with all local emergency services and Civil Defence," Hibiscus and Bays Local Board member Greg Sayers says.
He suggests people still keep survival kits ready and have household emergency plans worked out.
For a copy of the plan contact the Auckland Council on 09 301 0101 or visit aucklandcouncil. govt.nz or auckland civildefence.org.nz for information.
Auckland Civil Defence has an application available for smart phones and other devices which can be downloaded by searching the internet for "Auckland Civil Defence".
