The Hibiscus Rodders Beach Festival is likely to be even bigger next year.

More than 200 cars attended the holiday weekend's festival in Orewa - lining the beach reserve on Saturday and then the Orewa Boulevard on Sunday.

Organiser Sharon Morris-Belcher was "thrilled to pieces" with the event but she has ideas that would make the festival even bigger in years to come.

Now in its fourth year, the event keeps growing. This was the second time it ran over two days.

"This year the people were actually lining up for the parade of the vehicles when they took off, and that's what I'm trying to bring to town," she says.

One possibility is to increase the event's American theme, along the lines of the AmeriCARna show in New Plymouth.

This could involve flying American flags and decorating shops.

The event is also a fundraiser for the Westpac rescue helicopter. A final total is being calculated, but last year it raised about $6000.
