Grace Pengelly, 20, of Helensville has been named one of the seven finalists of the Specsavers Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition, showing people can be sexy when wearing glasses.

The competition, judged by actress Christina Hendricks of the Mad Men TV series and television presenter Kate Hawkesby, aims to find the country's most stylish spec-wearer and point them at a modelling career.

Grace won two pairs of Specsavers glasses, $500 cash, and another $500 donated to a charity of her choice - the Breast Cancer Foundation.

She entered to show people that wearing glasses does not make you a geek.

The winner will be announced later this month. The prize is a trip to Los Angeles to meet Ms Hendricks, a photoshoot, and a modelling contract with 62 Models and Talent.
