Lots on show despite little shine

The lack of sunshine didn't stop hundreds of islanders checking out the classic cars at the Waiheke Volunteer Coastguard's Show and Shine held at the sports ground on the Causeway.
Keen car enthusiasts of all ages enjoyed peering under bonnets and admiring the interiors of over 70 cars courtesy of the National Street Rod Association and many more thanks to the Waiheke Rod and Custom Club.
And fans of two wheel forms of transport checked out the motorbikes from the Waiheke Triumph Club.
Muthrtung, Burrell Boys, Feigned Innocence, Plastic Paddies, Arli Lieberman and Radio Rebelde provided the music with Mahana performing a moving tribute to Simon Johnston and Sallie-Anne Stones who both died last year.
Almost $5000 was raised from the gold coin entry charge and percentage of income donations from the stalls and providers of children’s entertainment, plus the very popular sausage sizzle.
The money raised will go towards night vision equipment for Waiheke Volunteer Coastguard.
“It was an exceptional day,” says Coastguard volunteer Jo Redding. “From 10am till 6pm the music and fun didn't stop.p>
